Consensus from Across the District

Over the past nine months, I have talked with people from across District 8 and everyone shares one common concern, the quality of public education. From parents to teachers, administrators to legislators, business people to concerned citizens; the message is clear…we want the best educational opportunities for our children. We want our education system to better prepare those students going directly into the workforce for 21st century jobs. We want our education system to better prepare those students going on to higher education so that far less remediation is required at the university level. As a graduate and long-time advocate of Alabama public schools, I am committed to improving teaching and learning for ALL students. I hope you will stand with me as your representative to the Alabama State Board of Education.

Chamber of Commerce / Schools Foundation State of the Schools Event

Attended the Chamber of Commerce / Schools Foundation State of the Schools event this morning at the Jackson Center and was reminded just how fortunate we are in the Madison County area to have our three school systems and the tremendous community support they enjoy. Was good to hear from all three of our Superintendents, Elizabeth Dotts Fleming with the Schools Foundation, our current State Board of Education member, Mary Scott Hunter, and Ryan Hankins, Executive Director of PARCA. The state report card was a hot topic and several suggestions into how we might improve it were mentioned... definitely an issue I plan to dig into more closely.
